About John Cockerill

The John Cockerill Group is in the business of manufacturing equipment in the domains of defense, energy, steelmaking, and others. Its defense division, John Cockerill Defense, is known for providing advanced weapons and more than 1,000 systems to international armed forces. The John Cockerill Defense teams put in substantial innovation efforts to meet the growing and evolving needs of land armies.

Challenges

John Cockerill Defense faced several challenges as they tried to modernize their training process. With multiple training programs such as virtual maintenance training for technicians, simulation training for commanders and gunners, and tactical training videos, they needed a platform that could host all this content as video-on-demand (VOD) while ensuring an engaging experience for trainees. Organizing the vast amount of training video content was essential to streamline the learning process.

Beyond static training, John Cockerill also wanted to make the learning experience more interactive. They needed to track employee progress, providing insights into how trainees interacted with the content. Furthermore, the defense manufacturing company often conducted live training sessions, including product demonstrations and skills-based training, which would later need to be archived as VOD.

Another layer of complexity was securing this sensitive defense-related content by segregating content for different departments, all while ensuring that the video content remained within their own servers due to the sensitive nature of their training materials.

Solution

John Cockerill Defense found its answer with VIDIZMO EnterpriseTube. The comprehensive enterprise video platform addressed each of their training and learning challenges. EnterpriseTube allowed John Cockerill to host all their training videos as video-on-demand (VOD), organizing them into playlists and collections. This made it easy for trainees to follow a sequential learning path. Whether it was virtual maintenance training for technicians or tactical training for commanders and gunners, all content was well-organized and easily accessible.

One of the key features that stood out for John Cockerill was the ability to insert in-video quizzes and handouts, making the training experience more interactive and engaging. This capability empowered employees to test their understanding of the content in real time, promoting better retention of knowledge.

EnterpriseTube also delivered granular video engagement analytics, allowing John Cockerill to closely monitor how trainees interacted with the videos. From assessing individual progress using user-level analytics to understanding overall engagement using engagement trends, the platform offered comprehensive analytics that gave the training team valuable insights into their program’s effectiveness. Moreover, the platform’s live streaming capability ensured that training sessions like product demonstrations, safety and compliance briefings, and instructor-led training could be broadcasted in real time, and then made available as VOD for later viewing.

Security was a top priority for John Cockerill, and EnterpriseTube’s advanced data security capabilities provided the protection they needed. The platform provided multiple portals – such as the Defense Portal and Corporate Defense Portal – allowing them to segregate content according to department. The integration with Azure AD ensured automatic user provisioning, while role-based access control and URL tokenization kept the content secure and sharable with select users. Finally, the on-premises deployment option meant that all video content remained safely stored on John Cockerill’s own servers, ensuring complete control over sensitive materials.

Impact in a Nutshell

  • All training videos were structured into playlists and collections, making content navigation and accessibility easier for trainees.
  • In-video quizzes and handouts made the training more interactive, helping trainees retain more information.
  • Granular video engagement analytics allowed John Cockerill to monitor progress and assess the effectiveness of the training content.
  • Multiple portals were created for content segregation, with role-based access, secure sharing, and on-premises deployment ensuring all content remained secure.
