About CDCR
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) runs the state's prison system, with a focus on public safety, restorative justice, and helping people reintegrate into the community. It wanted a way to securely stream live and on-demand video to both internal and external audiences across more than 30 facilities, covering news, training, and other content.
The Challenge: Internal and Public Video, Kept Apart, Across 30+ Facilities
CDCR needed to stream on-demand video across more than 30 facilities for training and to keep internal teams current on news and events from HQ and other departments. It also wanted to run live video and town hall meetings across those facilities so everyone, including management, stayed up to date.
The platform had to be deployed on-premise with strong security to keep unauthorized people from reaching the platform, its content, or certain actions. At the same time, CDCR wanted to stream some video to the public while making sure the public could not reach content meant only for internal audiences.
The Solution: A Hybrid Platform That Separates the Two Audiences
VIDIZMO EnterpriseTube let CDCR securely stream, manage, and share video through Wowza on one integrated platform. By connecting EnterpriseTube to CDCR's existing Wowza servers on its on-premise infrastructure, the department got a secure, organized internal portal for live and on-demand video.
Role-based access control let CDCR assign roles that govern what each user can see and do, which prevents unauthorized activity. Multitenancy gave CDCR a separate external portal with its own security to share video with the public, while keeping off-limits content out of reach, maintaining a clear separation between internal and public content, and avoiding per-user permission work. CDCR also stored content on a hybrid setup: internal content on-premise and public content in the cloud.
The Results: One Platform for Two Separate Audiences
EnterpriseTube let CDCR reach staff and the public from one platform without ever mixing the two.
- Internal teams across 30+ facilities get live and on-demand video, including town halls.
- A separate public portal shares video externally without exposing internal-only content.
- Role-based access and multitenancy keep internal and public content cleanly separated.
- A hybrid setup keeps internal content on-premise and public content in the cloud.
- Integration with the existing Wowza servers fit the department's current infrastructure.
