Founded in 2016, the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) is a Riyadh-based think tank focused on global energy economics and sustainability. It advises the Saudi Arabian energy sector, including entities such as Saudi Aramco, and its research informs energy policy worldwide.
The Challenge: Training a Multinational Workforce on Proprietary Research
As the Saudi energy sector shifts toward clean and renewable power, a shortage of skilled workers is one of the biggest obstacles. KAPSARC sits at the center of the region's energy and policy research, so it needed a way to develop skills across the 20 entities in its energy ecosystem.
That raised two competing needs. The research KAPSARC produces is proprietary, so it had to protect that intellectual property even while sharing knowledge widely. At the same time, its workforce spans many nationalities, and while Arabic is the region's language, not everyone speaks it, so training had to cross language barriers. KAPSARC also needed to keep content current as the energy field changed, and to measure whether the training was working and how far each learner had progressed.
